In the oils and fats industry, the quality of ingredients and finished products depends on many factors, including technological and engineering research aimed at optimising production processes.

This is how the collaboration between Unigrà and Desmet started, a company specialising in the design and construction of plants for the food industry. “The quality of our raw materials, semi-finished, finished products is essential,” says Simona Leoni, R&D Group Director at Unigrà. “For this reason, we collaborate with other industry leaders and ensure our unshakable reputation. Desmet is one of those partners.”

Thirty years of innovation

Begun in 1996, this partnership has evolved over the years through a continuous dialogue between research and industrial production. Over time, Unigrà has played a central role in the development and adoption of new technologies for the refining and processing of specialist fats. The company was among the first in Europe to install Statolizer technology for the production of cocoa butter equivalents, and the first in the world to adopt iConFrac, the continuous dry fractionation technology developed by Desmet.

Growing together

A journey in which the teams of both companies have worked side by side, turning research and experimentation into concrete industrial solutions.

On this topic, Lucia Gramigna (R&D Oil and Fats Manager at Unigrà) highlights how stimulating it is to work with a partner able to understand and support the research for efficient solutions to achieve specific properties across different products.

Simone Mazzini, Project Manager at Unigrà, also emphasises the importance of having worked closely with Desmet during the project execution phase and their constant support in the discussion, start-up and commissioning stages. Having present and reliable partners is fundamental to the successful outcome of a project.

Continuous dialogue, trust and shared knowledge: these are the pillars of successful partnerships, the kind that become a genuine driver of growth and innovation for the company.
